Study Summary: The purpose of this research study is to learn about people’s media habits and perceptions.

Participants who take part in this research study can access the survey online which will take approximately 10 minutes to complete. You will be asked some questions about your use and perceptions of various media and news topics. There are no known risks for taking part in this research study. Your participation is voluntary.

Introduction: You are invited to participate in a survey about media habits and perceptions that is part of a class project for COM CM 321 instructed by Dr. Michelle Amazeen, Department of Mass Communication, Advertising and Public Relations, Boston University, 640 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, MA 02215, phone: (617) 353-1020, email: mamazeen@bu.edu. The purpose of this research is to understand the types of media people use and how they understand various topics when covered by the media. Your participation in the study will contribute to better knowledge about how teens and young adults use and perceive the media.

If you agree to participate:
 • You will be asked some questions about your use and perceptions of various media and news topics.
 • The survey will take approximately 10 minutes.
 • You will be compensated with access to final research reports and the opportunity to observe our research presentations.

Risks/Benefits/Confidentiality of Data: There are no known risks to respondents for completing the survey. Other than the time it takes to complete the survey, there are no costs for participating, nor will you benefit from participating other than being exposed to new topics or issues that may or may not be of interest. No personally identifying information will be collected. A limited number of researchers will have access to the data during data collection. All information will be encrypted and kept on a password-protected computer-cloud drive accessible only by researchers associated with the study. The results of this research study will not be published but may be used for teaching. We will not include identifiable information on data that are used for these purposes.

Participation or Withdrawal: Your participation in this survey is voluntary. You may decline to answer any question, and you have the right to withdraw from participation at any time.
