Dear Music Educator,
My name is Phillip Wyant, a music educator in Pennsylvania and a doctoral candidate at Boston University. I would like to invite you to participate in my dissertation research by completing a brief questionnaire. The purpose of this study is to examine the occupational identity of in-service band directors working in elementary school contexts. The data collected from this questionnaire could lead to increased awareness of contextual based impacts on in-service K-12 band director occupational identity development. Your participation is entirely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time prior to submitting your responses. This questionnaire should take less than ten minutes to complete. The main risk of allowing us to use and store your information for research is a potential loss of privacy, however, responses will be kept confidential, and no personally identifying information will be collected. There are no direct benefits or compensation. Only I, as the principal investigator, and the faculty advisors listed below will have access to the responses.
If you have any questions about this study, you may contact me at pwyant@bu.edu. You may also contact my advisors, Dr. Tiger Robison at tiger.robison@uwyo.edu or Dr. Tawnya Smith at tdsmith7@bu.edu. If you have questions about your rights as a research participant, or if you have any complaints or concerns and want to speak with someone independent of the research team, you may contact the Boston University Charles River Campus IRB at 617-358-6115. The IRB Office webpage has information where you can learn more about being a participant in research, and you can also complete a Participant Feedback Survey.
If you wish to participate in this study, please verify your consent below and proceed with the questionnaire.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Phillip Wyant
